Peter takes the pen into his own hand as he closes his letter to express thanks to his colleague, Silvanus, for his assistance with the letter and his faithful partnership in the ministry. And then he cloaks the identity of his location by designating it as "Babylon." Rome had become, in Peter's day, the representation of man's kingdom and the center of persecution for the people of God.
